We Live In Interesting Times

This Friday, 4th December, I fly out from Canberra to deposit my two children Desmond (6) and Eleanor (4) with family members in Adelaide and begin the long journey to Scandinavia. I'm calm but slightly crazy with the logistical nightmare of getting everyone and everything settled before departure. What an honour!

Last Friday, 24th November 2009, we launched the LifeSaving Energy Swim for Solar at Queanbeyan Pool - with the help of Dr Mike Kelly(Federal Member for Eden-Monaro), Sue Wareham (Medical Association for the Prevention of War) and Shane Rattenbury (Greens MLA, ACT Assembly).

The Federal Coalition meltdown over the CPRS (Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme) rather swamped our media coverage, but I have a live-to-air interview on Thursday 9.30am on Dovetalk 2XX. Now at least we will not be taking a deeply flawed emission trading scheme to Copenhagen - who knows what the future holds!

Swim for Solar! - Anyone can swim anytime before 1st March to raise funds to install solar panels on local pools across Canberra and Queanbeyan. Thanks to IMGSport Commission and Everyday Hero, people can register and seek sponsors online from the CEFE website (www.cleanenergyforternity.net.au ). In Queanbeyan, the money will go to a community house for the homeless, especially those suffering mental health issues. Any excess funds from Canberra swims will go to renewable installations for local emergency services, keeping up our tradition of supporting fire crews and lifesavers at the front line of climate change.
